Written by the highly renowned Caryl Churchill, the play is often described as an unsettling look at British attitudes to America and vice versa.
Lance and Vera, doltish Anglophile Americans, visit England to discover history and look up distant relatives. Their illusions are shattered: their distant family connections are the unpredictable Phil and Jaq and they become involved in the cover-up of a murder. The following year Phil and Jaq pitch up at Lance and Vera’s house in the States. Their expectations are similarly destroyed, with disastrous consequences. The storyline is never smooth; the writing is sharp and engaging.
This play will be a joy to act and mesmerising to watch.
